INITIAL MEETINGS: The portrait process begins with a meeting, approximately 30 to 60 minutes in duration. This meeting can take place at the subject's home, office or other location. In the course of this meeting, the size and "spirit" of the portrait is decided upon, and the questions of pose, lighting, costume, setting and expression are decided, through discussion and experimentation. Extensive photographic reference material can be created at this time if subject is ready or a time in the future can be set in order to give the subject time to prepare .
THE FRAME IS ORDERED: At this point, the final size of the painting is determined; the canvas is stretched, and the frame is ordered. The cost of the frame is separate from the commission for the painting because the price of framing may vary depending on the frame chosen. The client may choose to purchase a frame independently from a supplier of his or her choice after the portrait is delivered.
STUDIO WORK: Now there follows a sustained period of studio work in which the details of the composition are developed, one by one, and in concert. The time required varies with the maximum about 2 months.
COMMISSIONS: Commissions start at $200 for a dog portrait and $1500 for portrait of person. Commissions will vary depending on size and number of subjects to be included in the portrait.
